What is JGRD?

Juneau Gold Rush Days, Inc. was founded in the early 1990s with a mission to educate the public about two of the industries that helped build Juneau—mining and logging. To fulfill this mission, the organization hosts Juneau Gold Rush Days (JGRD), a two-day community celebration that highlights the past, present, and future of Alaska’s natural resource industries.

JGRD is an action-packed celebration consisting of mining and logging events, local fair foods, booths of arts and crafts, live demonstrations, and activities for the whole family. Attendees can watch or participate in traditional mining events such as jackleg drilling, spike driving, and hand mucking, as well as logging competitions including axe throwing, speed climbing, hand bucking, and log rolling. Competitive events are offered for children, teens, and adults, providing opportunities for all ages to learn, compete, and have fun.

Juneau Gold Rush Days, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Admission to JGRD is free, thanks to support from the City and Borough of Juneau, local businesses, community partners, and generous individual donors. Through education, competition, and community engagement, JGRD celebrates the skills, history, and people that continue to shape Southeast Alaska.
